Carmel Competition - International Film Competition 2016

 The Jury: 

Andrei Plakhov - Film critic and historian, columnist for Kommersant daily, leading Russian newspaper. He was President (2005 - 2010) of the International Federation of Film Press (FIPRESCI), now–Honorable President. After graduating in mechanics and mathematics from Lviv University (Ukraine), he studied history of cinema and journalism at the Moscow Institute of Cinematography (VGIK). He defended a Ph.D. thesis about Luchino Visconti and Italian cinema. During Perestroika Plakhov was a secretary of Union of Filmmakers and a head of the Conflict Committee, which released more than 200 films banned by Soviet censorship. He was adviser, programmer and jury member of many international festivals and author of a number of books.

Judith Katzir - Katzir was born in Haifa and now lives in Tel-Aviv. She studied literature and cinema at Tel-Aviv University and has published four collections of stories, three novels, three children's books and one play for Hacameri Theater. Katzir's books were translated into 13 different languages and have won numerous awards, including the Prime Minister Award (twice), the Wizo France Award and the Zionist Creation Award. Her novel Tzilla was on the shortlisted for the Sapir Award and the story Shlaffstunde was made into the film Secrets in the Family by Nitza Gonen.


Amnon Zalait -
One of Israel's leading cinematographers, Zalait won the Golden Lens Award for Best Cinematography for both Ayelet Menachemi's Tel Aviv Stories and Amos Gutman's Amazing Grace. Other credits include Lelasede by Shemi Zarchin, Zohar and Vulcan Junction by Eran Riklis, Women by Moshe Mizrachi, Forgiveness by Udi Aloni, Fire Birds by Amir I. Wolf and Junction 48 by Udi Aloni.
