THE SEA

Khaled (12), a Palestinian boy is on his way to visit the sea for the first time in his life,  at the checkpoint, the Israeli authorities deny his entry. Determined, Khaled sneaks into Israel and embarks on a dangerous journey to the sea. Meanwhile, Ribhi, his father, is trying to trace his whereabouts, putting himself at risk of being arrested and losing his job.

A journey of a Palestinian child to the sea in a hostile region, is also the journey towards reconnection, between a father and son, who have grown apart after suffering a traumatic loss in the family.

Shai Carmeli Pollak, Director, is a documentary, animation, and fiction filmmaker. “The Sea” is his second feature.

Baher Aghbariya, Majdal Films, Producers, an innovative production founded in 2012 by Baher Aghbariya and has been independently producing both fiction and documentary feature films ever since. Among those are notable and prize winning features, including Hani Abu Asaad’s films Omar (nominated for an Israeli Academy Award),  The Idol, 2015, Jesica Habie Mars at Sunrise and Personal Affairs, 2016, by Maha Haj (official selection Cannes film festival, Un certain regard)
