Premiere Screening of the films created as part of the initiative “From the Other Side” aimed
at promoting young Arab filmmakers, to give voice to the issues that matter to them and to
advance their integration into the professional television and film industry.
“From the Other Side” ; is an incubator program, a joint initiative of the Gesher Multicultural
Film Fund and G.G. Zohar, producer of the daily television programs “On the Other Hand”
and “Al-Jaha al-Thaniya”, broadcast on the Public Broadcasting Channels, in collaboration
with Mifal HaPais Council for the Culture and Arts, the Tzadik Fellowship, and Makan
broadcast channel.
The films courageously address burning issues:
For 20 Shekels – by Annette Demirjian – presents a critical look on the Palestinian society’s treatment of dogs, through a rescue operation led by the filmmaker herself.
silenced experienced by Arab artists and intellectuals in Israel’s reality since October 7th.
Who Will Break the Silence – by Rami Fahel – Exposes the fear and the sense of being
Committee of Watchmen – by Nizar Kadah – follows the establishment of a volunteer
policing force by residents of Kafr Manda in response to rampant crime.
Following the screening, a discussion will be held with the filmmakers, moderated by film and television creator Ibtisam Mara’ana—who accompanied the filmmakers in their creative process —on the challenges faced by Arab artists in Israel today.
