Bernard (Gérard Depardieu), a car dealer in the South of France, well-to-do and with a beautiful wife, finds himself attracted to his rather plain new temporary secretary. Despite her own commitments, she feels the same and the two soon embark on an affair. Though it would seem it has happened before, his wife finds this particular entanglement of her husband very difficult to accept.

“The clever, ambitious Bertrand Blier film combines two notable French drives-sex and analysis. Fondly but neutrally, it studies a love triangle, turning it over to peer at it from all sides, probing its innards, measuring-as well as one can measure human emotion-the forces that generate it” (Chicago Tribune).

Filmography: Tenue de soirée (1986), Notre histoire (1984), Get Out Your Handkerchiefs (1978), Les Valseuses (1974).
