Italy, 1989. After years of grueling training, 13-year-old Felice – bearing the heavy weight of his father's expectations – finally sets out to compete in the national tennis tournaments. While he dreams of a carefree summer vacation, he instead finds himself placed under the wing of ex tennis champion Raul, an unconventional coach hired by his father. Match after match, their journey together leads Felice to discover the taste of freedom, and Raul to glimpse the possibility of a fresh start. As they travel along the Italian coast, the two form an unexpected, deep, and sincere bond.
My Tennis Maestro comes to Haifa directly from its world premiere at the Venice Festival. The new film from director-actor Andrea di Stefano is an odd-couple road trip, a coming-of-age tale of friendship and human connection.
