In 1982 Britain, Niki, an aspiring Japanese-British writer, plans to write a book based on her mother Etsuko's post-war experiences in Nagasaki. To her surprise, Etsuko agrees to share her memories. Her story begins with her encounter with Sachiko, a woman full of hope about starting a new life abroad. But as Niki delves into the mementos from her mother's Nagasaki years and listens to her memories, she begins to sense something odd.

Adapted from Japanese-British writer Kazuo Ishiguro's novel, this delicate, intelligent, and surprising drama offers a fascinating puzzle of memory, family, and resilience. The film premiered at the 2025 Cannes Festival.

Filmography: A Man (2022), Listen to the Universe (2019).
