The year is 1991, and China is undergoing sweeping socio-economic changes that drive many to leave their rural villages in pursuit of work in the cities. Ten-year-old Chuang, a gentle boy, is left behind in the village to be brought up by his grandparents and aunt, in a traditional world still shaped by the harvest, the Autumn Festival, and the cycle of births, marriages, and funerals.

Winner of the Silver Berlin Bear for Best Director at the Berlin Festival, Living the Land is a gentle, rich and intimate saga, spanning four generations that unfolds navigating the cycles of life through the changing of the seasons.

Filmography: Crossing the Border - Zhaoguan (2018).
