Weisse, Hoss and Rosendahl are not interested in explaining everything in detail. Instead, their interest lies in preserving Isabell and Anja's carefully constructed inner and outer lives, and how that establishes the rhythm of the story and offers a gentle but insightful critique of human nature.

Isabell's life takes a turn when it becomes apparent that her aging parents can no longer live independently. While searching for care staff and navigating her complicated marriage with Philippe, she shuttles between Berlin and her parents' weekend house—a striking modernist home her father built in his better days. There, Isabell repeatedly encounters the enigmatic Anja, a single mother struggling to make ends meet.

Ina Weisse (The Audition, 2019 Haifa Festival) reunites with celebrated actor Nina Hoss in a moving drama about family ties and class divides. Weisse further emphasizes the theme by casting her own parents as Isabell’s father and mother.

Filmography: The Audition (2019), The Architect (2008).
