Elif, a recent university graduate, has landed an intern position on a film directed by a rising star filmmaker. It tackles weighty themes, revisiting 1993, a period of inflamed racism in Germany. It should have been a golden opportunity, but during the shoot, a burned Quran is found on the set and Elif finds herself caught in the crossfire of rapidly escalating tensions.

Hysteria, a well-crafted conspiracy thriller, won the Europa Cinemas Label Prize for Best European film at the Berlin Festival. Filmmaker Mehmet Akif Büyükatalay offers a gripping and thought-provoking film while deftly handling the most inflammatory of hot button topics.

Filmography: Oray (2019).
