Two lives unfold in parallel in Dhaka, Bangladesh, connected by sand. Emma, a young woman from an ethnic minority community, covertly collects sand each week to fill her cat's litter tray. Hasan, a glass factory worker, steals silica sand from his employer, hoping to make his own glass and eventually start a business. One day, life is disrupted by the discovery of a severed finger.

Sand City, winner of the Proxima Grand Prix Award at the Karlovy Vary Festival, is described as “strikingly beautiful” (Screen Daily), a lyrical and atmospheric feature debut. Here, sand symbolizes the precariousness of life in one of the world's most densely populated cities – shifting, unstable, and concealing a multitude of secrets.

Feature Debut

It is presented in a new festival section dedicated to bold, original, and creative cinema.
