Berlin Hero

Berlin, 2019. Micha Hartung is a video rental shop owner in Berlin with a struggling business and troubled personal relationships. When an ambitious journalist arrives at Micha's store requesting an interview about his alleged involvement in the largest mass escape in the history of the German Democratic Republic, Micha senses an opportunity to make some easy money. But when Alexander's story is published, Micha unwittingly becomes an overnight media sensation.

The final film from Wolfgang Becker, completed shortly before his passing, Berlin Hero is a sharp, bittersweet satire adapted from Maxim Leo’s 2022 novel about an ordinary man swept up in an extraordinary lie.
