Iris Alush, the daughter of Tunisian immigrants, grows up in the Israeli periphery with her mother, a wedding-dress seamstress. Determined to rebel against the fate she was born into, Iris dreams of reinventing herself. She leaves Israel for Paris to study fashion design.

In Paris, she feels at home. Having spoken French since childhood, she feels that life in the beautiful city is smiling upon her. She finds a job in a bistro, rents a room in the apartment of Ilan, a French-Israeli journalist who uses it as his love nest, and is accepted into fashion school.

But a chance encounter on the Metro with an handsome man suddenly changes her plans — and the course of her life.

The film is based on the award-winning novel by Emilie Moatti.
