The film sheds light on fascinating, little-known chapters in the life of naomi shemer. the woman dubbed "the national poet"—who was, in reality, a deeply private person. It explores the conflict with her mother, who disparaged her "simple" popular songs; her life as a single mother torn between parental duties and a hunger to live life to the fullest; her attraction to younger men; her insecurities regarding her appearance; her tempestuous temperament and volatile mood swings; the heavy price she paid for her right-wing political views; and the plagiarism accusation regarding "Jerusalem of Gold" that cast a shadow over her life almost until her final days. The story is told through the voices of Naomi shemer’s two children and a handful of her closest friends, as well as through excerpts from personal letters and diaries revealed here for the first time.
