Forsaken

The murder of Samuel Paty shook France. Everyone knows the name, but few truly know his story. On 16 October 2020, Samuel Paty, a history and geography teacher, was murdered outside his middle school. Drawing on the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings, this film retraces his final eleven days and the chain of events that led to his tragic death.

Antoine Reinartz (Beats Per Minute, Anatomy of a Fall) plays Paty in the drama, which premiered Out of Competition at Cannes. This tense and relevant reconstruction explores institutional failure and the human cost of social hysteria.
