Lorenzo lives in an old building in the centre of Naples, a self-centered, lonely man. Things start to change when new neighbors move into the flat opposite. It doesn’t take long for Lorenzo to become attached to this outwardly perfect family that represents something he could never find in his own children.

Gianni Amelio finds loneliness and pain in the heart of old Naples and unfolds his story against the beauty of the inner city in all its fading, crumbling splendor.
