"This whole film is a hug, the kind you share with a very good friend when you are in sympathy about something that is very important."

Weronika is a Polish choir soprano; Véronique, her double, is a French music teacher. The women have never met; they contend with the ups and downs of their individual lives, but, unknown to each other, they share an enigmatic, emotional bond.

Krzysztof Kieślowski's international breakthrough remains one of his most beloved films, a ravishing, mysterious rumination on identity, love, and human intuition. Irène Jacob is incandescent in the dual role and, aided by Slawomir Idziak's shimmering cinematography and Zbigniew Preisner's haunting, operatic score, the film is an unforgettable symphony of feeling.

Filmography: The Three Colors Trilogy (1993), Dekalog (1988), A Short Film About Love (1987), No End (1984).
