"Everyone warned me: you don’t know what you’re getting yourself into". When Helena, a Czech student, falls in love with Nazir, an Afghan man, she has no idea about the life that awaits her in post-Taliban Afghanistan, nor about the family she is about to join.

Winner of the Jury Award at the 2021 Annecy Festival, My Sunny Maad is an original, simple and luminous animated film. Michaela Pavlátová’s offers a humanist and universal message about the importance of mutual respect and understanding, as well as gentle humor and a focus on the well-observed everyday details of the family life.
