On a remote Indonesian island, during the waning days of the colonial era, Dutch sugar manufacturer Jan suddenly drops dead in front of his wife Agathe. Their estranged son Cornelis and his heavily pregnant wife Josefien arrive from the Netherlands to take over the family business. To everyone's dismay, Jan's concubine Siti turns out to play a key role in his will.

A satirical drama about the disintegration of family ties during the downfall of Dutch colonialism in Indonesia, Sweet Dreams combines ruthless satire and the lavish aesthetics of a period drama.
