A story of adultery and spiritual crisis unfolds amidst a modern-day Mennonite community. Johan is in the midst of a marital crisis with his wife Esther because he believes himself to be deeply in love with Marianne, with whom he has been having an affair. Yet despite his belief that Marianne is his ideal mate, great love for his wife and children prevents him from starting a new life with his mistress.

A stunning opening shot of a heavenly breaking dawn sets the tone for one of Carlos Reygadas’s most mature and emotionally powerful films. Silent Light won numerous awards in festivals around the world, including the Jury Prize at the 2007 Cannes Festival.

Selected filmography: Batalla en el cielo (2005), Japon (2002).
