A cynical and disillusioned man travels from Mexico City to a remote canyon to prepare for his death. There he stays with a pious elderly widow in her rickety home. Although only a few words are spoken, the widow’s quiet humanity incites a reawakening of his desires and instincts for life.

In his feature debut, with a cast of nonprofessional actors and a 16 mm CinemaScope, Carlos Reygadas creates a film of soaring ambition and startling visual poetry.  Reygadas explores the harsh beauty of the Mexican countryside, taking us on an existential journey through uncharted cinematic territory that established the singular voice of its director.

Filmography: Our Time (2018), Serenghetti (2009), Silent Light (2007).
