Leo is eight, curious, wise and full of imagination. His best friend is a giant metal shark that his dad, an artist, built in their roof. Leo can confide his secrets to the shark. He can’t really talk to his dad, and mum has been gone for five years now. Also, there is comfort in fantasy. Then Anya, a spirited au pair, bursts into Leo’s life and challenges him to embrace the wild, wonderful mess of real life.
Learning to Breathe Under Water is an enchanting film about communicating and channeling grief with wonderful performances from all three leads.
