Israeli Community Court, founded merely seven years ago, offers defendants a radically new alternative to incarceration punishments: community-based rehabilitation programs. This documentary series intimately follows six participants of these programs, and reveals their hardships, failures and successes.
The series was produced for Kan 11, Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation. It documents the complex challenge faced by its protagonists from the puzzling moment in which the Justice System reaches out to them, offering the unexpected: a substitution of inevitable incarceration with a community-based rehabilitation program.
The camera exposes the very heart of the legal process: for the first time in the history of Israeli Justice System, it is permitted to enter the courtroom and closely follow a drama in which judges, lawyers, welfare officials and defendants take equal parts.
