A man rides a horse across the desert that separates him from Bitter Creek. He comes to visit Sheriff Jake. Twenty-five years earlier, both the sheriff and Silva, the rancher who rides out to meet him, worked together as hired gunmen. With The Flower of My Secret Almodovar comes as close to making a straightforward soap opera in the grand 1950s Hollywood tradition as the flamboyant director can get. Taking a more tame, emotional tone, the film offers the filmmaker's unique blend of melodrama, absurdity, compassion and color. A classic in a newly restored copy.
