Anatoliy returns home from the big city to take care of his dying mother. Her impending passing, a reunion with his brother, and a meeting with a woman he loves, make him reflect on the life he has led and the choices he has made along the way. And then, just before her death, the mother tells Anatoliy about a treasure she has buried in the shed…

Winner of the Best Director Award and Fipresci Prize at Locarno, Stepne is the feature debut of filmmaker Maryna Vroda. Vroda tells a melancholy yet hypnotic story set amidst stunning Ukrainian winter landscapes, vanishing villages, and emerging feelings of alienation among people in post-Soviet society.
