Edith, a journalist in her 40s, chose to become a single mother through an anonymous sperm donor, believing she could build a life on her own terms. Now the happy mother of a five-year-old son, she begins to feel the emotional weight of parenting alone, and doubts creep in. When she unexpectedly discovers the donor's identity, curiosity leads her to meet him. What begins as a calculated encounter gradually deepens into a genuine connection – one that threatens the fragile balance of the life she has built.

A sensitive drama and a Locarno competition selection, Solomamma sees Janicke Askevold explore the emotional terrain of single motherhood and the complex bonds between parents, children, and the people who shape their lives.
