Ange, a hard-working farmer, despairing of the harsh reality of his daily struggle, is determined to have his son take over the farm and continue his legacy. The mother tries to keep the family together. Yet, with increasing horror Klas watches his father's desperate behavior escalate. He seeks refuge elsewhere but cannot escape the inevitable.
