1999. 67-year-old Trond is a widower settling into a lonely life in a snow-entrenched Norwegian village. One winter night he discovers that his neighbor Lars is someone he knew as a boy. His memories take Trond back to 1948, when he turned fifteen and spent the summer with the father he adored.

Hans Petter Moland adapts Per Petterson’s famous novel and creates an evocative drama about remembrance and regret, with a wonderful performance by Stellan Skarsgård and sumptuous cinematography by Rasmus Vidbæk.

Filmography: Cold Pursuit (2019), In Order of Disappearance (2014), A Somewhat Gentle Man (2010).

Hans Petter Moland is a guest of the festival.
