Ruth is a scientist who successfully performs head transplants among monkeys. She and her happy, conventional, middle-class Swiss family are members of a highly conservative evangelical Christian sect. When Ruth's ex-lover, who she thought was dead, shows up on her doorstep, her convictions are threatened.

Simon Jaquemet’s haunting film about the limits of spirituality tells a strange and unusual story. The Innocent defies easy description, drawing us into an increasingly dark and troubled world as Jaquemet casts a mesmerizing web of uncertainty around his narrative.
