In St Peterburg, in the late 19th century, the Beautiful Antonina Miliukova hears the music of Pyotr Tchaïkovsky and instantly falls in love. Initially uninterested, the older Pyotr is eventually worn down by the promise of a large dowry and the need to end the rumors about his sexual inclinations. Not a recipe for a happy marriage.

Tchaikovsky's Wife, the fifth film by Russian master Kirill Serebrennikov to be screened in the festival’s program, comes to Haifa from the Official Competition at the 2022 Cannes Festival. Serebrennikov presents an intelligent and incisive period drama and explores the themes of obsession and madness.

Filmography: The Student (2016), Betrayal (2012), Yuri’s Day (2008), Playing the Victim (2006), Bed Stories (2004).
