Omid is indeed the “hope” (the meaning of his name in Persian) of his middle-class family: his mother Leili and uncle have come from Tehran for an important swimming meet in northern Iran, on the Caspian coast. Unfortunately, Omid has missed the application deadline and local politics will allow no exception.

Winner of the Crystal Globe for Best Film at Karlovy Vary, Summer with Hope is loosely inspired by Anton Chekhov's play, The Seagull. Set against the backdrop of a traditional patriarchal society, the film examines the pressure-filled expectations of a new generation, for both themselves and their families.
